After India reported its 4th death due to coronavirus, with total COVID-19 cases rising to 194, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged people to stay indoors and called for a “Janta Curfew” on Sunday 22nd March 2020.
Addressing the nation on the greatest pandemic in decades, Prime Minister Modi in a statement said that the world is passing through a huge crisis, which has engulfed the entire human race. For the last 2 months, we have been watching with concern the news about coronavirus spreading across the world. Therefore, he has requested people to adhere to advisories issued by the Union and the State Governments so as to contain the spread of coronavirus that has affected more countries than World War I and II.
Prime Minister has urged the citizens to observe a ‘Janata Curfew’ on March 22 from 7 am to 9 pm. At 5:00 PM, on the doors, balconies, express, streets or wherever, for 5 minutes, Janta Curfew is a way to express our gratitude for the workers who have been working tirelessly amidst the coronavirus pandemic, despite the threat to their survival, be it medical staff, police, hygiene workers, banks staff and many others. Let’s do it by clapping or by ringing a bell and face the pandemic with collective determination and patience.
PM Modi also announced the setting up of the COVID-19 task force, under Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for measures in order to lower some of the economic hardships stimulated by the pandemic.
Nine Calls-To-Action By PM Modi
- Janta Curfew on 22nd March.
- Do not go out until really necessary. Stay indoors. Stay healthy to keep others healthy.
- Do not resort to panic buying.
- Senior citizens to stay indoors
- Social distancing
- Avoid elective surgery or routine health check-ups and overburden health services
- Asking employers to pay employees in full while they have to stay home and have a humane view of things.
- The central government, local state government, and local bodies will continue to work to overcome the global crisis.
- Stay away from Rumours
As the spread of coronavirus has climbed in India, the country is headed towards a virtual lockdown with the government restricting the movement of people in several parts and closing public areas to restrict the gathering of more than 10 people. It is the time to give up the attitude that all is well or we would, somehow, escape the disease and become a part of Janta Curfew.
