Annamalai Kuppusamy – Singham of Karnataka

Ace IPS Officer Annamalai Kuppusamy, referred to as Singham of Karnataka, was one of the most toughest cops on the list. Always feared by criminals and loved by people, the Bangalore IPS has served nine years in various posts in Karnataka. He was last posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), after which he tendered his resignation from his post. 

Annamalai Kuppusamy Background

Annamalai, a 2011 batch IPS officer, hails from Karur, Tamil Nadu. He began his career in 2013 as an assistant superintendent of police in Karkala Subdivision. He later served as superintendent of police in Udupi and Chikmagalur district, where he earned the love of people.

Posting As DCP (South)

October 2018, Annamalai Kuppusamy was brought in as a tough cop to Bengaluru city. He was posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) by Kumaraswamy led government. His transfer came up exactly a month after Alok Kumar was posted as additional commissioner of police (crime) in Bengaluru city. 

Annamalai IPS hit the headlines after his crackdown on gambling and matka dens of Chikkamagaluru. Kumaraswamy led government brought in the tough cop to curb the gambling rackets in Bengaluru city.

The Resignation

Many speculations were doing the rounds for the Bangalore IPS. Some of them stated that he was resigning from police service to join politics back home. However, in a letter to his colleagues he cleared that he was yet to decide on the next steps. He mentioned that he wanted to spend some time with his family and also wanted to get back to farming.

Annamalai Kuppusamy is quite popular in the IPS circles and the general public. He will always be remembered for his stint as Superintendent of Police in Udupi, Chickamagalur and Bengaluru and Assistant Superintendent of Police at Karkala in Udupi district.
