Yelahanka: 

The city of Yelahanka had been in existence prior to 12th century. The region was called ‘Ilaipakka Naadu’ during the rule of Cholas. A stone tablet of 1267 A.D found in Doddaballapur mentions Dechi Devarasa, ruling the region with Yelahanka as his capital under the aegis of Hoysala  monarch ‘Narasimha III.  Later, during Hoysala rein, the city came to be known as ‘Elavanka’ and gradually shifted to ‘Yelahanka’ . This constituency has 4 wards. The famous biennial event “Aero India” air show takes place in this constituency. 

Aero India – Air Show at Yelahanka 

Aero India is a biennial air show and aviation exhibition held in Benglauru at the Yelahanka Air Force Station.  It is organized by the Defence Exhibition Organization, Ministry of  Defence.  The Defence Ministry of India, Indian Air Force, Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Department of Space, the Union civil Aviation Ministry and other such organisations join hands to organize the show, making it the largest in Asia. 

Aero India has already carved a niche for itself globally as a premier aerospace exhibition, with successful editions organized since 1996.  The eleventh edition was held at Air Force Station, Yelahanka,  Bengaluru from 14 to 18 Feb 2017.  The 2017 show provided a significant platform in bolstering business opportunities in International aviation sector. A rapidly growing economy, defence preparedness challenges and opening up of defence production to private sector, have given a major fillip to the defence industry in India. It has also become a hub centre for defence business in Asia.

Countdown to the Aero India begins in right earnest with global aerospace and aviation firms descending on Bengaluru to showcase their aircraft, products and technologies at the five-day exposition.  Aero Show,  Bengaluru  is a great event that is sought after by people across the country. A lot of folks fly in to attend the event in big numbers. It is a bi-annual affair which is quite a big event and has a lot of fan fare. Who wouldn’t like to experience the latest Fire Power and Aircraft that Indian Defense possesses!  Above all it is a bonus that you can see them in action performing hair-raising stunts for the crowd. The tickets get sold out pretty fast for this event.

Billed as one of the largest air shows in South Asia, the biennial event will witness a show of strength and skills by a number of companies from different countries across the world to pitch for multi-million dollar deals and collaborative ventures with Indian aerospace industry and aviation players. Aviation enthusiasts pour into the air base in large numbers, and the event, which is a largely underwhelming fare suddenly comes alive. A breathtaking display of thrilling manoeuvres by military aircraft and aerobatic teams make feel audience spell-bound. Loud cheers from the large crowd rent the air as the metal birds in the sky performs one manoeuvre after another. The experience will be more memorable for those attending the show for the first time. The skies over the Yelahanka airbase will be dazzled with somersaults and stunts by metal birds with the daredevilry of world famous aerobatics teams in full flow. Some of the aircrafts that has participated in the flying display are India’s own fighter jet light combat aircraft, the advance trainer jet Hawk of the British aerospace company, the supersonic Sukhoi-30MK1, Transsall C-160 of Germany, Mirage 2000 and Jaguar Strike of France, MiG 29 M2 and MiG 21 of Russia and the military variants of the advanced light helicopters.
